My star career by Weng Meiling

When I was in middle school, I lived in the UK. I have lived in there for many years.  My mother still lives there and is registered as a citizen. And I depend on her for life. The United Kingdom is my other home, but I still use the word "Ke", because it is always a country of foreigners for me. When the people around have red beards and green eyes, they are full of "ghosts". I still have black hair and yellow skin, I can't really feel a sense of belonging, let alone devotion!

In the early days of returning to Hong Kong my mood was also trembling. In the UK, at least I have my mother by my side, taking care of everything, even making me lose my temper and make me stubborn. It’s a familiar environment, no matter whether what I did, familiar things never bring fear. When I returned to Hong Kong it was a strange place for me and everything needed to be started again from scratch.

I set myself a "trial period" for two years. During this period, I had to let myself break through here. Participating in the election of Hong Kong sisters is actually making a fuss. I think the most important thing in life is to try, and whether to be selected or not is a second thing.

Become one of the fifteen selected Hong Kong sisters and was invited by the TVB network to be the host of "Women's New Attitudes", which also confirmed my desire to stay in Hong Kong for development. Anyway, the two-year deadline has not passed, and I have gained a lot of valuable experience. I am really willing to continue trying until I become Huang Rong. I know that I can't go back to the UK alone, because in Hong Kong I already have my own business, my friends, and my own lifestyle.

My lifestyle is also closely related to my career and friends. Originally, I never dreamed that I would become a star, and I didn't even think that the TV business was like this. The morning and evening work procedures are reversed, day and night (if this is still a procedure), which is powerless, but has to dance knives and guns to become quackery, etc. After work, I have to attend many receptions and banquets. Meet people of different classes, the most terrible thing is to use strong endurance and restraint to fight against the sensational gossip news. In my life there is no time free from work, no fixed daily work, or even fixed salary, but I like this lifestyle.

This is a physically exhausted life, but it is very colorful. The loveliness of Hong Kong lies in the fact that it allows such a variety of existence. Hong Kong people work tirelessly and at the same time know how to invest in life to jointly create a colorful society. Seeing Hong Kong’s current construction, it is the same as I did more than ten years ago. What you see here is more than a thousand miles apart.

I believe that Hong Kong will continue to prosper under the so-called "shadow of the future." Maybe, this is just my wishful thinking, but we don't need to think too much, just do our best.

1983 star whispers
