Barbara Yung Changed Her Original Plans
A daring attempt that paved the way for a bright future.
When Barbara Yung joined the Miss Hong Kong pageant, she had just returned from the UK for a vacation. She said she loved life in Hong Kong and wanted to see what opportunities were available. If it suited her, she might stay for an extended period.
As a result, Barbara Yung set aside her diploma in textile design and stayed in Hong Kong, joining TVB. Initially, she hosted "Women's New Attitude," and surprisingly, she adapted quickly, appearing calm and composed on camera. It seemed that television work suited her personality well, and she likely felt very happy during this year.
While recording "Women's New Attitude," the show's hosts and guest performers often gathered together. I remember once, Mrs. Lee, who taught cooking, mentioned during a casual conversation that Barbara Yung would have an ideal development in the entertainment industry. Perhaps she had some insight, foreseeing that Barbara would find success in this field.
Sure enough, not long after, Barbara landed the roles of Double Gege in "The Thirteen Sisters" and Huang Rong in "The Legend of the Condor Heroes." For a newcomer, her luck was enviable. At the same time, however, thousands of eyes were watching her, waiting for her to make mistakes and picking on her flaws.
But Barbara Yung was not like anyone else.
"I know that my acting skills and experience are still insufficient, so I have to put in ten times the effort and time to learn compared to others."
"If people ask me how I got the role of Huang Rong, I can only say it was luck. But in the days to come, I must prove myself through my performance and show everyone that this role was not wasted," she said, her words unusually firm despite her delicate appearance.
There was no doubt that she worked extremely hard. The audience could even sense Barbara Yung's dedication through the screen. It was challenging for her—this was an undeniable fact. At first, she acted deliberately, resulting in an unnatural performance, but gradually, she grew into the role and delivered a fitting portrayal. Her intelligence and cleverness were no less than that of Huang Rong, the character created by Jin Yong.
Given time, she will undoubtedly become a skilled actress. Her initial performance gave everyone confidence that she was a talent with great potential.
"I hope to take on a modern drama after finishing 'The Legend of the Condor Heroes.' I feel that roles shouldn’t be limited, or else an artistic career won’t last long," she said.
In just a year, Barbara Yung had changed the direction of her life. It seems her choice was not wrong—this would be a very good start.
In her career, she is grounded, and everything is progressing well. In matters of the heart, her efforts have also brought her happiness. Regarding her relationship with Ken Tong, she feels that everything should develop naturally.
Hong Kong—a place worth staying for the long term.
