Wong Tin Lan Visits Barbara Yung's Grave

"I regarded Barbara Yung as my own daughter," Wong Tin Lan said wistfully as he reminisced. "When we were filming The Legend of the Condor Heroes, Barbara was still a newcomer. She was playful and often went out at night even after the exhausting shoots. I advised her, saying, 'Since acting is so demanding, you should rest more and avoid running around late at night.'"

The northern wind howled as Wong Tin Lan stood before Barbara Yung’s grave in the countryside near Cambridge. His corpulent figure swayed slightly in the breeze. "I don’t believe Barbara committed suicide," he said. "She showed no signs of despair beforehand. Moreover, she had been drinking before her death. Perhaps she was simply careless while using the gas."

Wong Tin Lan was in Europe to serve as a judge for the Miss Chinatown pageant. Upon arriving in London, he made a special trip to Cambridge to pay respects at Barbara Yung’s grave and to visit her mother, marking six months since her passing.

Early that morning, Wong Tin Lan, Sun Wing Yan, the reporter, and eleven other staff members took the train from London to Cambridge. Upon arriving at Barbara’s mother’s home, her mother and uncle, Chan King, welcomed them with tea and refreshments. Together, they sat in the cozy, elegant living room and reminisced.

Barbara’s mother, still overcome with grief, shared, "I still think of her as my little girl. Since she passed, I’ve lost 14 pounds."

Wong Tin Lan responded compassionately, "You mustn’t dwell on it too much."

At that moment, Chan King brought out Barbara Yung’s art pieces for everyone to admire. The intricate works impressed everyone, sparking heartfelt praise.

After a short rest, the group, along with Barbara’s family, traveled by car to her grave for the memorial. The day was gloomy, with overcast skies. The cemetery was quiet, and no one wished to speak much. In solemn silence, they bowed before the grave. Wong Tin Lan, despite his heavyset frame, bent down with effort to place a bouquet of red roses on the grave.

Barbara’s mother remained silent, gently stroking the photo of her daughter engraved on the tombstone, as if caressing Barbara’s hair. Her touch was tender, as though afraid of hurting her daughter even in death.

If Barbara Yung could see from beyond, she would surely feel the deep love and tears brought to her by her family, friends, and mentors.

“我把翁美玲当作是自己女儿，”王天林唏嘘地追忆说：“当拍《射雕英雄传》时，美玲还是新人行，贪玩，拍戏之后晚上还经常上街，我劝她说，既然拍戏辛苦就多点休息吧，不要经常夜里四处跑了------”

北风呼呼，王天林站在剑桥郊野翁美玲墓前，肥胖的身体在风中也似不禁摇摇晃晃，“我不相信翁美玲是自杀的，事先她一点悲观迹象也没有，而且死前曾喝了酒，可能用煤气时不小心------”

王天林目前前来为欧洲华埠小姐赞美任评判，在到了伦敦后，为了怀念去世半年的翁美玲，专程到剑桥翁美玲墓前拜祭和探望翁母。当日一早，王天林、孙泳恩、笔者和另外十一名工作人员从伦敦乘火车到剑桥，到达翁母家后，翁母和翁美玲舅父陈景捧出茶点招待，我们就在幽雅的小厅谈起来。

翁母又陷入回忆中，“还是记着囡囡，她去后我瘦了十四磅。”

天林叔无限同情地说：“那你不要再想吧！”

这时候，陈景拿翁美玲生前的美术作品给我们看，这些作品非常精美，大家都赞不绝口。

稍事休息后，我们和翁母全家乘车到翁美玲幕前拜祭，当日天色阴暗，坟场很静，大家都不愿多说话，只是肃 穆地在墓前前鞠躬，王天林艰难地弯下肥胖的身躯，献上一束红色玫瑰花。

翁母无语，用手摸挲着墓碑上翁美玲的遗像，像是摸着翁美玲的头发，充满爱怜，唯恐稍重一点都会弄疼她一样。

美玲泉下有知，她会感受到她的前辈和妈妈等至亲挚友带给她的眼泪吧。
