Barbara Yung Moves Past Misfortune and Opens a New Chapter

Barbara Yung was robbed by a group of burly men outside her apartment building on Broadcast Drive, losing over a thousand dollars in cash. Fortunately, it was only a robbery for money, and no harm came to her otherwise.
Speaking to reporters afterward, Yung admitted that she felt unlucky and plagued by misfortunes. She mentioned she might go pray to the gods or perform rituals to ward off bad luck, including the traditional "beating the petty person."
When I ran into her at the TV station, she wore a troubled expression. I tried to comfort her by saying, "Don’t let it get to you. Things will pass. That robbery was just a coincidence. Just be more cautious in the future."
"I'm upset, not just because of that incident. It feels like misfortune has chosen me recently, like all the bad things are happening to me," she lamented. "Living together rumors, closed-door arguments, pursuing Michael Miu—it’s all too much!"
I asked her about rumors that the robbery was orchestrated by someone she had offended by revealing their secrets.
"Who said that? I'm definitely not someone who spreads others' secrets. Their affairs have nothing to do with me! That day, I was driving Tong Chun Yip's car home, from Princess Margaret Road back to Broadcast Drive. I suddenly noticed two Japanese cars tailing me, but then they disappeared," she recalled.
"Later, I noticed them again near Broadcast Drive. That’s when I had a bad feeling. Sure enough, when I reached the production center, the two cars blocked me, one in front and one behind. The robbers jumped out with knives and took all my money and my watch. From what I could tell, it wasn’t a planned ambush because I’d already seen them earlier on the road."
“Could it be retaliation because you talk too much?” I asked.
"Impossible! Let’s not bring this up anymore. I just hope losing money will ward off disaster. I don’t want to blow things out of proportion."
“So, you're going to beat the petty person?”
"I have to! Too many things have gone against me lately. Earlier, I had my fortune told in Singapore by an Indian fortune-teller, and he was surprisingly accurate!"
"What did he say?"
"I can’t tell you!"
"Did he mention the cohabitation rumors or pursuing Michael Miu?"
"No! If they wanted to say Tong Chun Yip and I were living together, they should have said so back when we first met and were deeply in love. Saying it now is just ridiculous! As for Michael Miu, he’s with Jaime Chik, and Jaime is my good friend. How could I come between them? It’s pure nonsense!" Yung said indignantly.
"Let it go. You should focus on your career, where you’ve had many successes," I said.
"This year hasn’t been as good as last year. This year belongs to Maggie Cheung!" she quickly responded.
"Do you feel like Maggie Cheung has overshadowed you?" I asked.
"There’s no denying it, but I take it in stride. Today, you’re in the spotlight; tomorrow, it’s someone else. It’s hard for anything to last forever," she said philosophically.
"Then what about Liza Wang, who has remained a perennial leading star?" I teased.
"The key to staying popular is audience acceptance and opportunities given by the company. It’s all about timing and effort. Destiny ultimately has the final say," she replied.

翁美玲在广播道住家大厦门外被数名彪形大 汉打劫,损失了千多元现金,还好只是劫财,没有 劫色!
翁美玲事后对记者说她当黑,衰气不断缠着 ,迟些看情形,也许会去拜神,并要打小人哩!
电视台里遇见她,她露出一副愁容,于是我 对她说:“别这个样子,事过情迁了嘛,那次被 劫只是凑巧选中你,以后出入小心便成!”
“我不开心,不单只为了那件事,突然之间 像霉气选中我,全都倒在我身上似的,什么同居 、闭门打架、追求苗桥伟,哎,真的气坏!”她 说。
“据说你被贼劫,有人幕后主使的,因为你 泄露人家的秘密!”
“谁说,我绝对不是那么没口德的人,别人 的事与我无关!那天我驾汤镇业的车回家,由公 主道返广播道,突然发觉有两部日本车尾随着, 但一下子又不见了!”她说着,回忆当时情况。
跟着她又说:“后来我又发觉他们又在广播 道出现,登时我已有一种奇妙感觉,觉得不妙! 结果驶至制作中心,两架车一前一后把我夹着, 他们就持刀跳下,把我全部钱和手表都抢去,依 我看来,他们并不是预早埋伏,因为我在半途中 已经遇见他们!”
“是否因为你口多被人寻仇!”
“没可能!哎,不要提啦,希望破财挡灾! 我不想把事情搅大!”
“所以你要去打小人!”
“真的要啦,太多不利我的事情啦!前阵子 在新加坡看相,是一个阿差来的,他说的颇准呢！”
*他说什么?
“不能讲呀!”
“是否说你同居,追苗侨伟!”
“不是!假如要说我和阿汤同居,早于我们 认识、热恋的时候就应该传,现在才说我们同居 ·未免太迟钝了吧!至于说我追阿苗,他有戚美 珍,我和阿戚又是好朋友,怎会横刀夺爱,哎, 简直胡说八道!”翁美玲气愤地说。
“算了吧,事业那一回得意,你应该满足!”
“今年比旧年差,今年是张曼玉的天下!” 是张曼玉的天
她立刻说。
“可有感到被张曼玉抢尽风头?”我问。 “这是不能否认的事,但对我来说,我看得 很开,今天是你做主角,明天就是别人,很难有 永恒的事情发生!”
“汪明荃就做了永恒的主角!”我故意气她说。
