Mariann Wong Cho-si is born in Xiamen, Fujian Province, and settled in Hong Kong with her parents when she was very young. She is the cousin of Taiwanese singer Tong Ange. She was considered to be a star when she was very young.

黄造时出生于福建厦门，在很小的时候就跟随父母定居在香港。她是台湾歌手童安格的表妹，不知道是不是家族里面自带的艺术天赋，她在很小的时候就被人认为是个当明星的料。
黄父自己就有一个演员梦，所以没事的时候，就带着女儿去片场看别人演戏，时间一长，多少得到了熏陶。大导演许冠文也跟着黄父开玩笑，让黄造时快点长大，长大就可以拍戏了。
不出意外，黄造时真的在毕业后报名了无线艺员培训班，并跟汤镇业成为了同班同学。那个时候她年纪很小，只有16岁，为了能提升自己，她不得不一边拍戏一边学习。
她通过主持儿童节目《跳飞机》顺利出道，因为形象可爱，性格开朗，很快就得到了许多小朋友的喜爱。
主持事业稳定后，她开始往演艺圈发展，拍摄了《痴情劫》、《四海一家》、《新扎师兄》等影视剧。这些电视剧虽然让黄造时的人气得到了提升，但却并没有太大的反响。
直到1983年《射雕英雄传》的热播，她通过饰演的“华筝”成功走红，她的事业才算是步入了高峰期，巅峰时比刘嘉玲还火。
那部剧在当时有多火呢？几乎达到了万人空巷的地步，里面的主创几乎全火了，饰演黄蓉的翁美丽更是成为了“俏黄蓉”。而黄造时，也毫无例外地成为了“最美华筝”，此后不论这部作品被翻拍多少次，都无人能够超越黄造时那一版。
因为那部剧，黄造时跟翁美玲、杨胖胖被评为“香港三美”。
那部剧在当时的香港是现象级的作品，直接将很多演员送上了事业的巅峰。可惜在红过一段时间后，她的事业始终都没能得到突破。
随着香港演艺圈能人辈出，黄造时的星途开始越走越不顺，甚至有一段时间，无戏可拍。
为了能赚钱，她不得不接私活。私活来钱快，让她在拍戏的时候心不在焉，时间一长，公司就将她给解聘了。
那个时候，她刚好20岁，未来还大有可为。
她转身进入到亚洲电视台，在那里，她又拍摄了几部经典作品，如《白发魔女转》、《秦始皇》、《时势英雄》等。
当年扬言要等黄造时长大的导演许冠文，也兑现了他的承诺，在1981年邀请她主演了《摩登保镖》。这部电影拿到了票房冠军，可惜黄造时并没有因此而翻红。
随着香港影视圈的落魄，亚视的也从辉煌走向了衰弱，黄造时的星途就这样越走越黯淡。
她尝试过多种角色，可再也没有哪个角色能够红过“华筝”。
为了打破僵局，她铤而走险拍摄了三部“情色电影”，可牺牲如此大，还是没能走红。在拍摄完《色欲追魂》后，她干脆退圈了。
在感情这一块，其实黄造时也传出过不少绯闻，曾在拍摄《射雕》的时候跟黄日华关系暧昧，可当时男方是有女友的，从而导致黄造时的口碑不佳。
也有媒体爆料她曾介入过别人的婚姻，但因为没有证据，最后不了了之。
退圈之后，关于她的恋爱绯闻倒是不少，可最后她却嫁给了一个圈外高官。没想到多年未见，她也成为了人妻。
离开了演艺圈，她行事低调，一心只想要过普通人的生活，当有记者询问她身份的时候，她矢口否认，好像要跟过去的自己告别。
