Tai Po Railway Station
Tai Po Kau Station was a now-defunct railway station on the Kowloon-Canton Railway in Hong Kong on the British section of the Kowloon–Canton Railway in Tai Po Kau, New Territories, Hong Kong. Its location next to Tai Po Hoi and a pier serving the northeast New Territories made Tai Po Kau a transport hub.
The station had traditional Chinese architecture.
When the British section of the railway opened in 1910, it was originally named Tai Po Station. On January 1, 1965, it was renamed Tai Po Kau Station. After the station was dismantled, the site was redeveloped into the MTR staff quarters known as Chek Shing Hin.
Opening date: October 1, 1910
Closure date : May 2, 1983
As roads and public transport were improved in the area and as the remote villages depopulated, the importance of the station and the pier declined quickly. The station was abandoned when the railway was electrified in the early 1980s. At this time, two ferry routes serving the adjacent pier (to Tap Mun and Tung Ping Chau) were moved to the Ma Liu Shui Pier near University station.
On May 2, 1983, the second phase of the Kowloon-Canton Railway electrification project was completed, and electric train services were extended to Tai Po Market Station. Tai Po Kau Station was decommissioned on the same day.
After its closure, the station building and toilet facilities on the northbound platform were not immediately demolished; instead, the exit to the tracks was simply blocked off with iron railings.
In the 1990s, the station building and platform were finally dismantled and removed and replaced with staff quarters of the KCR Corporation. This development is called "Trackside Villas" and is linked to Tai Po Market station by a shuttle bus.
After the demolition, the station sign from Tai Po Kau Station was relocated to Chek Shing Hin for preservation. However, during Typhoon York’s strike on Hong Kong in 1999, the sign was crushed by a fallen tree and subsequently removed.
The distinction between Tai Po Market railway station and Tai Po railway station.
In the days before electrification. Tai Po had two rail stops. Perhaps the more famous one…was called Tai Po Market railway station and served the centre of the new market town. Tai Po station on the other hand was on a site now occupied by Trackside Villas in Tai Po Kau.
The former exists in two forms:
1) the current MTRC East Rail station that serves the south side of Tai Po, and
2) the old Chinese style station (built in 1913) that closed down when the line was electrified in 1983 and turned into the small Railway Museum.
Tai Po Station, on the other hand, is a former station about a mile south of modern day Tai Po Market.

1)现今港铁东铁线的大埔墟站,服务大埔南部;
