Barbara Yung Loved Beautifying Things!
Missed Out on Fame in Taiwan?

Back in the day, Michelle Yim (米雪) rose to fame playing "Huang Rong" in the series The Legend of the Condor Heroes produced by Commercial Television (佳视). Now, Barbara Yung’s portrayal of Huang Rong for TVB has also won over audiences, solidifying her status as a top period drama actress.

TVB’s strong support for her is undeniable, her acting projects keep coming one after another. Already petite in stature, Barbara now looks even more delicate.

"Ah, you’ve gotten so thin, it’s heartbreaking to see!" the reporter remarked sympathetically.
"Actually, I’m doing better now! I’ve gained a little weight, at least with some nourishing soups," she said with a smile.

"You’ve been working late nights for a year now. Can you handle it?"
"I’m used to it, three or four hours of sleep a day is enough for me," she replied breezily.

Barbara embraced the workload without complaint. Suddenly, she asked, "How’s Susanna Huang (黄杏秀)? Is she really going to Taiwan to develop her career?"
"Yes, she’s quite popular there," the reporter answered promptly.

Due to Taiwan’s ban on Hong Kong TV dramas, Barbara and Felix Wong’s The Legend of the Condor Heroes never reached local audiences, otherwise, it would have surely sparked a "Guo Jing & Huang Rong" craze.
"You arrived a step too late. Do you feel regret?"
"Not at all! Everything is predestined. What’s meant to be yours will be yours, I don’t dwell on it."

In truth, her current success is no less than Susanna Huang’s. The sheer number of fans in her fan club proves it, though most are teenagers Barbara treats them like younger siblings.

As the saying goes, "Love me, love my dog." Barbara understood this well. Whenever she met with fans, she tried her best to attend with her boyfriend, Ken Tong (汤镇业). She didn’t just want fans to support her, she hoped they would accept her partner too. With these young admirers, she was always warm and sincere. Kent nodded in agreement, "She’s a very caring person."

"If you weren’t an actress, what would you do?"
"I could always return to my old profession. I studied textile design in the UK. Though I’m a bit rusty now, the skills are still there."
"Why did you choose that field?"
"It was my uncle’s suggestion. Having lived with him for over a decade, he knew me best. He thought I was suited for design work." She reminisced, "I once made a set of curtains for my mom. I wanted to make some for myself too, but never got around to it. If I were still in the UK, I could’ve gone back to school to use their equipment."

Barbara had learned knitting, weaving, and fabric printing. After designing her own patterns, she could personally print them onto fabric. But with her busy TV schedule and lack of a dedicated workspace, she had set the craft aside for years.

"Since you love beautifying things, you must have decorated your new home with great care!"
"Hah! Don’t imagine too much, it might be a case of 'the florist’s daughter wears no flowers!'" she quipped playfully.
