I am hoping that this website will stimulate other people who actually met Barbara to publish their memories. Sue is the first one who mailed me. This is not the Sue from the story 'Chinese New Year 1977".

Hi Rob,
You may not remember me, but I remember you and lovely Barbara very well. I shared a flat with Chris who was good friends with your brother and also Steve and Di. I think you came to a couple of our parties at Milton Road.

I was extremely shocked to hear about Barbara. I can still remember the time and place very clearly - I opened a newspaper during my coffee break and saw the photo of Barbara with a headline along the lines of 'Hong Kong in mourning' and read the incredible story of her becoming a famous actress and her tragically young demise. Then some years later (after 1999) scholars at my Institute who were visiting from mainland China started asking about her, as they knew that she was buried in Cambridge. One young visitor even took some fruit and left it on her grave as an offering...

Are you still in touch with Chris? I hope that he is OK. And also your brother. I remember your brother getting incredibly drunk at one of our parties, and having to sit in the car park to sober up! Chris always spoke so warmly of your parents and how kind they were to him in Cambridge.

Concerning Barbara, I only had the pleasure of meeting her with you a few times at Steve and Di's house. I just remember her as being very sweet and pretty, and thinking what a handsome and nice couple you made. I also remember Barbara's friend Sue with the long blonde hair. I seem to remember a story that Di told me about someone having their dirty washing stolen in London, but I'm not sure if it was one of them or one of their friends!

Best wishes,
Sue

Sue的回忆

我希望这个网站能鼓励那些当年认识Barbara的人们也来发布他们的回忆。Sue是第一个给我发邮件的人。这位Sue和那个'中国新年1977'里的那个Sue不是同一个人。

Hi Rob,

Sue

Sue here looks like somehow a movie star. :)
Surprised that Sue still remembered Barbara for so long despite meeting her few times.

Rob, what about your parents and brother's comment about Barbara? :D

Hello Hey,

All I can say is that Barbara was not the kind of person one could easily forget. I think one remembers fun times, and I met her at social occasions like Sunday lunches prepared by Di, which were always fun with a big group of friends. Of course what subsequently happened to Barbara only about 5 or 6 years later was so dramatic and tragic that it really stays in the memory. How could one forget something like that? Best wishes!

Hello Sue, I wonder what makes you remember Barbara despite few meetings without knowing each other? Let me share with you something special about Barbara. She had charisma which never be easily forgotten by me. For years, I watched many actresses on TV but they didn't capture my heart till Barbara came along when her drama series were re-aired on tv screen years later after her death.

Something special about Barbara cannot be explained in mere words. After watching her TV drama - Legend of Condor Heroes, I immediately fell in love with her charismatic acting. She looked adorable and cute and smart. She brought that TV character to life. She was irreplaceable.

Sue, I wonder if you don't mind scanning the newspapers which u read years ago. I would like to see what newspapers of old times looked like.

Oh dear, i forgot to add one more thing: did you send that photo to Rob? That photo appeared in the front page of this website. If it is the case, who was the foreign man besides Barbara and Rob? What special occasion did Barbara put on heavy make-up when she was with Rob and foreigner man?

I think you misinterpreted the picture. Barbara did not wear heavy make-up (she never did). The picture was given to me by Di and the guy next to Barbara is Di's brother.

Sue - the one who published her memories.
Sue, you are a very beautiful and glamorous caucasian lady - like the female movie star that we watched in the 1970s. GOOD JOB!

This picture seemed to show that Barbara wore heavy make-up. What's her secret to how she looked radiant and as if she wore heavy make-up? Yup, she seemed to wear heavy make-up. Surprised me to see that picture that she wore heavy make-up when she didn't like make-up.

Excuse my words: Di's brother looked like a triad gangster. Forgive me for saying that.

Tran W, Yup, Sue really looked like a movie star from 70s. Is she really a movie star in reality? If so, no wonder.

Di Wright,

No wonder Barbara frowned at Rob for bringing his friends to her shop - fish and chips at http://www.barbarayung.nl/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=50:first-time-to-histon3&catid=55:stories19761977&Itemid=74

Di's brother looked like 30-35 yrs old when he was a gangster looklike. How old was he at that time? 20 yrs old? Did he fancy to be like a gangster?

What was your impression of Barbara? Had you managed to chat with her?

You are right, if my daughters would come home with boyfriends who looked like we did, my first reaction would be quite worried. At that time we didn't really care what other people thought of us, what you looked like was not important to us.

How different Barbara's lives was in HK, where looks were the only things that counted.

Di will be publishing her memories soon on this website. Maybe her brother will do as well.
