Yung Mei Ling’s room is filled with small items everywhere: clothes and small toys all over the place.

Visiting Yung Mei Ling’s home can be considered one of the longest visits I’ve had. From the time I made an appointment with her, starting from the first season of The Legend of the Condor Heroes, she had been very quick to agree, likely due to her confidence. Although the plans had changed a few times, Yung Mei Ling did not disappoint me or the readers, and finally, I was able to knock on her door.

When the door opened, I immediately saw a tall building, about half the height of a new modern skyscraper. The space was spacious and much cooler. The house was divided into two parts, with a front and back living room. Yung Mei Ling’s room was at the front. For one person to occupy a hundred square feet of space was quite nice, especially in a place like Hong Kong where land is so valuable. Yet, Yung Mei Ling still felt it wasn’t enough. She often complained that the room was too small, with no space to store all her things. No wonder when I entered, the floor was covered with bags of items. It turns out they were all her fan letters, which were piling up more and more. Her mailbox was often “overflowing.” Staff members would stack her letters and give them to her when she returned to the company. Currently, she’s only managed to go through the letters from April. Yung Mei Ling felt very sorry towards her fans, as she had been so busy recently that she barely had time to breathe. Now that she had a moment, she was trying to catch up on the photo shoots, appointments, and interviews.

In her room, on top of her bed, there’s a photo frame. In addition to her own photos, there’s also a picture of a small dog. It’s a photo of her dog from her home in England. Yung Mei Ling had three dogs and more than ten cats in England, practically like a zoo, it’s quite surprising.

"Last night I couldn’t sleep, so I got up and started replying to letters. I didn’t stop until 4 a.m.," Yung Mei Ling said as she opened more letters. Her fan letters, shoes, and other miscellaneous items were all over the place, making it hard to organize.

"Because the space is so small, no matter how much I clean, it still looks like this. There’s really no way to tidy everything up properly," she said with a bit of frustration.

After she had put away a lot of clothes into the wardrobe, there were still bags of things she couldn’t find a place for. Yung Mei Ling explained that these were toys gifted to her by fans—plush toys and small decorations. She joked, "It won’t be long before I can open a toy boutique!"

Yung Mei Ling is very easy going and likes to sit on her bed, so even her guests would sit there with her. She brought a large box of tissues to the bedside and took out a stack of letters, preparing to reply to them.

"My dog at home is funny. It doesn’t seem to know whether it’s a dog or a cat. No matter what, it’ll eat with both the cats and the dogs." Yung Mei Ling even showed a photo of her feeding the cats to the reporter. In addition to this, she also shared some pictures of her life in England.

In her home in England, aside from the many cats and dogs, her second passion was painting. Whether in the living room or bedroom, the walls were covered with oil paintings that she had collected since childhood. All of these were works by her uncle, who was the person she admired the most. The two had a mutual admiration for each other.

Her home was originally quite comfortable, but nuisance phone calls had disrupted the atmosphere. The phone would ring endlessly throughout the day. Some calls were from a man who not only used vulgar language but also sent filthy messages on postcards, which caused much distress for both Yung Mei Ling and her foster mother, Mrs. Chen. On one occasion, the man even called in the middle of the night. Yung Mei Ling angrily shouted, "He deserves to die!" As a result, she was planning to move house to escape these bothersome individuals.
