The romance between Kent Tong and Yung Mei Ling has reached a stage where it is openly acknowledged, if still somewhat discreet. Since her return to Hong Kong from a performance in Europe, Yung Mei Ling no longer avoids the camera. She appears with Kent Tong side-by-side, even willing to take couple photos with him.
“You should admit that taking pictures with Ah Tong doesn’t necessarily mean anything,” Yung Mei Ling said, smiling gently, revealing her bunny-like front teeth. She then added calmly, “No, we’re just good friends. I take photos with Wong Yat Wah, Choi Fung Wah, or even Miu, too.” However, in the eyes of those close to her, her relationship with Kent Tong was undeniable, even though Yung Mei Ling previously hesitated to take photos with him. Moving from avoiding photos together to allowing the media to capture them side by side signals something significant that she understands best.
“Isn’t Ah Tong a bit of a macho man?” a reporter asked, steering the conversation in another direction. She laughed, nodded slightly, and replied, “A little bit. Kent Tong has put in considerable effort for Yung Mei Ling, even changing the colour of his beloved car from orange-red to white—partly to let go of an old relationship (since Deborah Moore preferred red), but mostly because he knew white was Yung Mei Ling’s favourite colour. This is why his white car is seen so often around town.
