翁美玲參選港姐入行嶄露頭角 飾演「黃蓉」無人超越

兩段戀愛刻骨銘心 有傳多次為情自殺？
雖然事業一帆風順，不過翁美玲的感情經歷卻幾經波折，難有平靜。居英期間，有傳翁美玲與一名荷蘭籍男同學相戀，起初翁美玲母親十分反對兩人交往，有指她曾分別在18歲和19歲的兩年間吃下整瓶安眠藥自殺，所幸及時被人發現送醫洗胃，才撿回性命，據悉母親最終默認翁美玲的戀情。有外界推測翁美玲因此以為只要以自殺威逼他人，就能得到自己想要的結果，為她之後自殺憾事埋下伏筆。

愛情是糖果也是毒藥，翁美玲香消玉殞前最為人熟知且最具影響力的，要屬她與湯鎮業的戀情，當年外界一直盛傳翁美玲的死與其有不可割捨的關聯。在翁美玲24歲時參演人生第一部電視劇《十三妹》時，邂逅「無綫五虎」之一的湯鎮業，兩人朝夕相處互生情愫，其後高調認愛，成為娛樂圈中羡煞旁人的金童玉女。
